Autographs and Excitement
Michael Oher... Baltimore Raven and inspirational speaker visited Salisbury recently. Our YEAH Club studnets were there to greet him. With copies of his book I BEAT THE ODDS in hand they had a great evening listening to his presentation and getting their books signed. Michaels' struggles resonated with our students. Once again they heard the lesson that staying in school and dedicating themselves to education is a foundation for success that can't be overlooked. Thanks to our partners at Prince Street Elementaty for allowing the YEAH Club to visit for this memorable evening! |

College Fair Broadens our Horizons
Kids of Honor® YEAH Club recently visited the Baltimore Convention Center to attend the National Association for College and Admissions Counseling (NACAC) College Fair. The fair had over 100 respective colleges and universities in attendance with UMES and SU being included. The students found the fair to be “very enlightening and eye opening”. At the fair, Kids of Honor® YEAH Club members gathered tons of information on schools all over the country. Some students were excited and overjoyed after meeting the Admission Counselors at their dream schools. The students found that some universities they have an option to submit SAT scores or not; which was information that made dreams of attending college more realistic. After hearing the news about the options of admissions they quickly completed information forms. A Kids of Honor® YEAH student said “speaking with some of the admissions counselors they made me feel welcomed and wanted at their school”. Throughout the course of the fair and conversations with counselors students were exposed to other careers, majors, and clubs that the different schools offer. YEAH students attended the fair wanting to major in one thing and after speaking with the counselors they were inspired to select a major as well as a minor. The YEAH students received answers to questions pertaining to the student teacher ratio, school population, graduation rate, and job after college percentages. YEAH Club members left the fair feeling not only inspired but more motivated and driven to do their best. “This was an experience we will never forget.” |
